The International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) is the most inclusive international gathering in the field of Asian Studies. ICAS attracts participants from over 75 countries to engage in global dialogues on Asia, transcending boundaries between academic disciplines and geographic areas. For instance, the ICAS Book Prize (IBP) is no longer limited to publications in English only, but includes books in Chinese, Korean, German and French as well.
ICAS events include panels and roundtable discussions, keynote speeches, craft exhibitions, a film and documentary festival and the Asian Studies Book Fair. With all these activities ICAS is contributing to the decentering of Asian Studies by including more ‘Asian voices’. In the meantime ICAS convenes a global space in which Asia scholars from the whole world can directly interact. Enjoy the multitude of networking opportunities, the possibilities to share your research and to meet with publishers.
The 11th edition of ICAS will be held in Leiden, The Netherlands. The organization of the convention is a collaboration of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) of Leiden University and GIS Asie (French Academic Network for Asian Studies) in Paris. From 16 to 19 July 2019 you are welcome at the Law Faculty Building (Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw) and Lipsius Building of Leiden University. More than 2000 Asia specialists and representatives of civil society are expected to attend.
